Does anyone care about the actual All-Star game anymore. No one plays any defense– at least the Slam-Dunk contest keeps it real. It’s just a show with no defense whatsoever. Now that is how you have a showcase!
Nate Robinson surprised just about everyone when he went Lex Luthur on everyone and shocked the NBA’s version of Superman. Jumping over a 6’11″ opponent is going to get all kinds of love, so I see how 52% of the fans voted for him. All I have to say, I have never haven’t seen a dunk quite like Dwight Howard’s; a throwdown where he passed to himself off the side of the backboard. Either way, there were a few dunks that seemed to defy the law of physics.
For anyone that didn’t see the Slam Dunk contest live, something that you won’t hear about was Rudy Fernandez’s second dunk in the first round. It actually tied for the lowest score of the contest, but I ask you: have you ever seen anything like this? I still can’t get my mind around how he was able to catch it off the back of the backboard, avoid hitting his head on the glass, fly to the other side and still throw it down with authority.
Other other bit of news to come out of the contest is that LeBron has already thrown his name into the hat for next years contest. LeBron, Superman, Nate Robinson, Andre Iguodala and maybe even Josh Smith. Can you imagine what could come out of a contest with those atheletes? It would be like back in the days when the best players in the league would particiapate in the Dunk Contest. For anyone that remembers the 1988 contest in Chicago between MJ and Dominique Wilkins, you’ll agree that the superstars of the game should be in this thing. I’m already looking forward to next years!

I didn’t even think of that! Actually, I had completely forgotten about Robinson’s dunk when he used a teammate as a human stepstool… but it is funny that he needed help with one dunk, and jumped OVER someone with another. I’m telling you– there are holes everywhere!! The fix is in!!
I think the judges were fascinated with the idea of the short guy jumping over Howard, mostly. It is interesting how Nate did one where he jumped of a guy and the jumped over Howard later, idk, seems a little contradictory.
sorry double post

I’m telling you…. the two most impressive dunks all night were Rudy’s dunk with the pass from Pau and the Howard dunk off the side of the backboard! Its been a few days, and THOSE are the ones I remember! Fernandez was just so smooth with both of his dunks– the almost looked TOO easy! (except that it took the full two minutes to make his 2nd one)…
Yeah, the Fernandez dunk was definitely underscored, there may have been a bias to try and get Nate and Howard in the final instead of J.R. and Rudy. Howard’s first dunk was not a fifty, and his last dunk was unispired.
