Matt Greene Blocks Shot with Face

84623061VD008_VANCOUVER_CANThis is what makes players in the NHL great. At the end of the Vancouver Canucks vs. Los Angeles Kings game, the Kings were desperately clinging to a 3-2 lead. The Canucks were buzzing around the LA net trying to net the equalizer. With about 5 seconds left in the game, Alex Burrows (who already had a goal in the game) found himself with the puck in the middle of the slot. Matt Greene went down to block the initial shot– only to have the rebound go right back to Burrows. The next shot was a little more painful, a snap shot to the face!

You can imagine the reaction he got from his teammates at the final buzzer. It’s plays like these that help build a winning foundation and provide leadership for a young team. Head Coach Terry Murray constantly talks about how he wants his young players to play for each other, instead of playing for themselves.  I think this would qualify!

Rather than celebrating, he just skated off to get stitched up before the next game. That’s a man!  Yes, that was Greene’s idea of “using his head.”

If you've been back this many times and aren't a subscriber, what are you waiting for? Even if our RSS feeds scare the hell you (because you don't quite understand RSS), we promise the email alerts aren't painful at all. Seriously, a money-back-guarantee-even-though-its-free kind of promise.

Wow. Awesome heart. way to take one for the team! good thing they won too or it would’ve been for naught.

If Matt Greene was my teammate on our Beer team and I saw that, I would’ve rolled over the boards and clobbered Burrows, especially if he donned a Sharks jersey….
Hip-Hip Hooray! for Greenie!
