Sidney Crosby Drops the Gloves

by Matt Reitz on April 6, 2009

sidney-crosbyAt least his 2nd career fight was a little better than his 1st one!

I have to admit, if this was anyone else, hockey fans would be happy about this incident.  A superstar on the team got lit up with a check (albeit clean), and the captain went over and stuck up for his teammate.  No matter who the combatants are, it’s always great to see someone defend one of his teammates.  If you watch teams that make it deep into the Stanley Cup playoffs, they always have that team quality that they’ll stick up for anyone on their team at anytime of the game.  If that was Jerome Iginla, everyone would be talking about how he’s such a great leader.  Although, if it was Iginla fighting Ballard, the fight would have been a little more entertaining too.  Here’s the video:

Maybe Crosby should just leave the fighting to some of the other guys on the team.  The Penguins don’t pay him to drop the gloves–and lets be honest, he’s not very good at it.  If he ever legitimately squares up with someone who’s expecting it (instead of jumping them when they aren’t expecting it), he may get killed.

I appreciate the effort there Sid, but leave the fighting to anyone else on the team.

Any player that will not stick up for his teamates is not a teamplayer. Only teams like this win championships

“If he ever legitimately squares up with someone who’s expecting it (instead of jumping them when they aren’t expecting it), he may get killed.”

Dude, ignoring the fact that Crosby had a perfectly normal fight with Andrew Ference where he didn’t “jump” him, and also ignoring the fact that Crosby TOLD Mclean he wanted to go, and Mclean didn’t take him seriously until Sid dropped the gloves and started punching him, how can you imply that Crosby “jumped” Ballard, when BALLARD DROPPED THE GLOVES FIRST. Crosby came after him, Ballard even said he knew Crosby wanted to fight, so he tried to get his gloves off quickly.
Sad that the Crosby haters will criticize him for anything. When he doesn’t drop the gloves, he’s a whiner and a pussy. When he does drop the gloves, he’s accused of jumping people and fighting dirty. What do you people want this guy to do? (Other than stop beating your teams)

I can read just fine and it apears to me that Pitt is in 6th in East. All you uneducated Pens fan need to realize “you are not BEATING everyone” even if you are solidly attached to Sid’s cock. Hell the Flyers that suck so bad have played less games and and are in 4th. I will take it. Yes you beat us in the Eastern Finals so I can say congrats on last season. But if my memory is correct, you went back to the shitty city by the river with no cup. So in my world we ended up with the same results and I personally believe no room to talk shit then. Mimi here won the cup and has the only right to say ANYTHING. I never questioned Sid’s offensive abilities which he truly has. I just mentioned that just like Mario, he is a bitch and should not try to be what he is not. He is going to try and act like a real man and get the living shit out of him and espn will then have the ammo to use their poster boy to get fighting out of hockey. Is that really what you want? I mean if Pitt was that great of a hockey city, you wouldn’t be playing in a shit house. Wouldn’t have to keep trying to leave for a new city. Actually have good attendence and be profitable. Just like Sid needs to grow up, so do the fans. GOD OUT!!!!!

you clearly know nothing about penguins hockey then because… 1. pens are building a new arena as we speak. 2. pens are here for good and they have been. 3. sold out over 100 consecutive games and counting. 4. mike richards likes to touch men.

Whoever Mike Richards wants to touch is his choice. Its America. I know you are building a new arena. I am not a fucking idiot. You tried to leave for 3 years before the “great Pitt fans” steped up with the new arena. They looked for numerous new investors before they found what they needed to stay. I know that. And after you good run last year, you have had a string of sell outs. But if your really going to argue that what I said has no truth (past 5-10years) YOU MY FRIEND DONT KNOW PENS HISTORY) Once again Grow up

I have zero problem with Sid’s response for two reasons.
1. While the hit was “clean” it was dangerously close to being clipping, and Crosby saw it at full speed, once.
2. The hit was on Malkin. Anyone else and that response might not have been warranted, but when the league’s leading scorer goes down like that there must be a response.

Additionally, if you watch one of the replays Guerin can be seen coming in like he was going to engage Bollard, Crosby just beat him to it.

Also – this wasn’t Sid’s second fight, and the McLean debacle wasn’t his first. See Crosby v. Andrew Ference, Dec. 2007.

Cindy needs to stick with what works for him….crying and whining to refs. Leave the fighting to the big boys.

ohh you got jokes eh? and no i’m not talking about your poor pathetic excuses for pro sports teams. And don’t give me the whole Phillys world champs bull**** they don’t even have as many titles as the Pirates. Flyers? 1975. Eagles…0… Sixers who cares? Sid DOMINATES the Flyers every time we play you guys because ignorant arrogant fans like you cant see he feeds off of your hatred. He’s a top 3 player in the NHL and whines even less than Richards who’s not even a top 10 player…
