Rob Scuderi Saves The Penguins

by Matt Reitz on June 10, 2009

Rob Scuderi Earlier this week we were debating the merits of all the Conn Smythe candidates that are playing in the Stanley Cup Finals. After Game 6, it looks like we left out an obvious nominee: Rob Scuderi. For anyone that needs proof, here’s the reason why the Penguins were celebrating after 3 periods last night—and not preparing for an overtime to save their playoff lives. You could easily make the argument that he’s been the best defenseman for the Penguins throughout the entire playoffs (I know I would). I mean, who else would you nominate—Hal Gill? Right. Here’s why Rob Scuderi should be treated with God-like reverence today in Pittsburgh:

Game 7 is on Friday at 5:00 PDT. You know the NBC executives are hoping for a quick game—otherwise The Tonight Show could actually be delayed! Once again, NBC and the NHL demonstrate their wonderful planning abilities. I’m sure NBC doesn’t want the game on a weekday (as evidenced by Games 1 and Game 2) and I’m any fan West of the Rocky Mountains wished the game was on a weekend so we could see the 1st period! So basically fans are going to miss part of the game and the network is going to be praying for a quick game. Perfect.

Maybe Rob Scuderi could work in the NHL league offices—after Game 6, I think he could save them too…
