Division Previews: Roundtable Wrap-Up

by Matt Reitz on September 6, 2009

A huge thanks goes out to all of the bloggers that contributed to our week-long Roundtable Previews. It was great to get some insight into what each fanbase thinks about their team and expects for the coming season. Funny how some people will have a perception of their own team—then the rest of the league had a completely different perception of the team. Only time will tell who is right.

It was great to see how the bloggers would agree on some things; yet have completely different views on other situations. If you listen to the Pacific Division contributors, it’s going to be the Sharks and then everyone else fighting it out for 2nd place. After all of the national (and local, for that matter) media attention San Jose has received for NOT making the moves that they need to make, the Roundtable still unanimously agreed that the Sharks will win the Division. Maybe they REALLY respect that Scott Nichol pick up last month!

The bloggers don't agree on much, but the Atlantic is the Bruins Divisino to lose...

Other results that were universally agreed upon were the Bruins and Capitals winning their respective divisions, while our bloggers expect the Islanders and Avalanche to finish in the cellar. The Coyotes and Predators would also be unanimously in the basement if it were not for their representatives having hope for their seasons. I don’t really think any of the bloggers were going out on a limb on ANY of these positions!

My favorite part of the discussions was hearing each team’s blogger enlighten us to the player they think is underrated. Every team has players that are vitally important to their organization—but because they don’t score many points or show up on YouTube; only the diehards know their true value. I’m sure that GMs all over the league know the importance of Brooks Laich, Mark Streit and Dave Bolland—but until they pull a Max Talbot in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, they’ll probably continue to fly under the radar.

If you liked anything that you read over the last week, please don’t hesitate to visit the bloggers own websites. Each person that we chose for this project, we chose for a reason. Whether it was because they make us laugh, have sticking insight or because they are the undisputed blogging authority for their team—we tried to give everyone a mix of some of the best hockey bloggers out there. Here’s a list of everyone that donated their time, the websites you can find them at and their Twitter names where it applies. If you like them, find them!

Of course, we’ll continue to do our thing around here as well…
