Daily Cross Checks
Wednesday October 28

Who’s playing in the NHL tonight? Where can I find it on TV? When should I turn on the aforementioned TV? Most importantly, should I even bother turning on the TV? Here’s a place to find all the games of the night and talk about them to your heart’s content. Don’t worry, tomorrow we’ll start all over. Hockey fans, these are your Daily Cross-Checks.
NY Rangers at NY Islanders
Time: 4 PM PST
TV: MSG 2,MSG PLUS (HD)
It’ll go to OT and the Rangers will win. That prediction has nothing to do with the Rangers and everything to do with the Isles.
Buffalo at New Jersey
Time: 4 PM PST
TV: MSG-B,MSG PLUS 2
Best goalie on the ice probably isn’t Brodeur.
St Louis at Carolina
Time: 4 PM PST
TV: FS-MW
Will the Canes decision to waive Stephane Yelle do anything to kick-start the team?
Phoenix at Columbus
Time: 4 PM PST
TV: FS-A,FS-O
The Coyotes started the season the best defensive team in the league—yet they’ve given up 5 goals in EACH of their last two games. Then again, the Blue Jackets gave up SIX in their last game.
Montreal at Pittsburgh
Time: 4:30 PM PST
TV: RDS,FS-P (HD)
I don’t know if you heard, but Sidney Crosby is going to carry the Olympic torch. Seeing how the Pens are playing a Canadian team, you should hear about that about 972397 times.
Ottawa at Florida
Time: 4:30 PM PST
TV: TSN2 (HD),FS-F
The Sens have kind of flown under the radar with their 5-2-2 start to the season. The Panthers have also flown under the radar—but a 2-6-1 record isn’t exactly the kind of mark that will light the world on fire.
Toronto at Dallas
Time: 5 PM PST
TV: TSN (HD),FS-SW (HD)
Nik Hagman visits his old team as he comes off a hat trick What do you want to bet that he’d like to replicate that performance in Dallas?
Nashville at Minnesota
Time: 5 PM PST
TV: FS-N
The bad news is that this is a battle between the two worst teams in the West. The good news is that they’d only be 12th and 13th if they were in the East. Two things going against the Preds—they are still averaging under 2 goals per game and the Wild (as horrific as their record is) are undefeated at home.
Colorado at Calgary
Time: 6:30 PM PST
TV: ALT2 (HD),PPV
Who knew this would be a battle? The Avs get to play the 2nd game of a back-to-back against the Flames. Since Budaj has the Swine Flu, it looks like the hot Craig Anderson is going to get 60 more minutes of ice time.
Los Angeles at San Jose
Time: 7:30 PM PST
TV: NHLN-US,FS-W (HD),CSN-CA (HD)
Two teams loaded with firepower will go at it in Northern California. Last time the teams played, the Kings jumped out to a 4-0 lead before blowing it. They escaped with the win, but I’m sure Terry Murray wishes the Kings could tighten it up when they have the lead.
