Daily Cross Checks

Thursday October 29

Daily-Cross-Checks
Who’s playing in the NHL tonight? Where can I find it on TV? When should I turn on the aforementioned TV? Most importantly, should I even bother turning on the TV? Here’s a place to find all the games of the night and talk about them to your heart’s content. Don’t worry, tomorrow we’ll start all over. Hockey fans, these are your Daily Cross-Checks.

New Jersey at Boston
Time: 4 PM PST
TV: MSG PLUS (HD),NESN (HD)
The Bruins will look to build on their come from behind, shootout victory over the Sens. The good news is that they get to play at home. The bad news is that the Devils are 5-0 on the road this season. So I guess that’s bad news.

Ottawa at Tampa Bay
Time: 4 PM PST
TV: TSN (HD),RIS,SUN (HD)
Why is it that I still think of both of these teams as expansion teams? Tampa has one a Cup (shocking as it may seem now) and Ottawa has made it to the Finals. Yet still, I look at these teams and still just think of an ill-conceived expansion project. Oh, and Ottawa has been good… Tampa has sucked.

Washington at Atlanta
Time: 4 PM PST
TV: NHLN-US,CSN-DC (HD),SPSO (HD)
Some of the juice behind this game is gone with Kovalchuk out of the lineup. When he’s on the ice, these are two of the most dangerous teams with some of the most dangerous snipers in the league. Now, it’s just a team without its best player trying to tread water until he gets back.

Chicago at Nashville
Time: 5 PM PST
TV: CSN-CH (HD),FS-TN
Didn’t these teams just play? In a rematch of Saturday’s 2-0 win for the Blackhawks, the Predators will look for a better result at home (you know, like a goal). The Hawks will look to extend their Central Division lead by beating the Preds once again—they’ve already beat them twice in the last 2 weeks.

Phoenix at St Louis
Time: 5 PM PST
TV: FS-A,FS-MW (HD)
This is the 3rd game in 4 nights for the Coyotes—in their third city. The schedule makers weren’t too kind to the Blues either as they are in the 2nd game of a back-to-back. At least they wont have to deal with Steve Ott this game. Maybe he knocked a little consistency into their game?

Detroit at Edmonton
Time: 6:30 PM PST
TV: TSN (HD),FS-D
Hey hey! The Red Wings learned how to win a game on the road! A 5-4 win has helped Red Wings fans breathe a collective sigh of relief. After the Avs game on Tuesday night, the Oilers probably just want to get a goal. And avoid the Swing Flu.

Vancouver at Los Angeles
Time: 7:30 PM PST
TV: PPV,FS-W (HD)
For the 2nd time in less than a week, the Kings have a back-to-back situation where the second game is actually at home. That kind of marginalizes the home ice advantage, doesn’t it? Their reward is that they get to play against the Canucks who have had their share of problems on the road.
