“I Might Just Be A Hockey Fan In California” is a feature that will be posted every Saturday here at the View From My Seats. There are plenty of things going on in the hockey world (and even the sports world); and you know everyone has an opinion. This is a place for some quick hits of the week that was.
_______________
I might just be a hockey fan in California, but:
- Nothing puts a damper on the Opening Night euphoria like a 6-3 loss to a team that has been in court all summer.
- Ray Emery proving that he’s decent is bad news for the entire Eastern Conference.
- I thought the Kings Opening Night loss to the Phoenix Coyotes was awful. After the Yotes smashed the defending champion Penguins 3-0, the Opening Night loss doesn’t look as bad as it once did.
- Andrei Markov’s injury is bad for TWO teams: The Montreal Canadiens and the Russian Olympic team.
- Brett Favre gets more coverage on days that he DOESN’T play than the entire NHL gets on days they DO play.
- The Flyers look good. Really good.
- I’m not sure that the Devils and Jacques Lemaire are going to be a match made in heaven. The team looks like they’re playing constipated—it all looks like too much effort and nothing flows. Constipated.
- If the Canucks keep playing they wa they are, we’re going to see full on paranoia in British Columbia pretty soon. Of course, 7-1 victories over the Habs help.
- When the NHL was promoting their “Rivalry Night” on Thursday, why do I get the feeling they weren’t talking about the Kings vs. Wild matchup?
- Can we start a new award that’s called: “Guy That Would Have Won The Hart Trophy if Alexander Ovechkin Wasn’t In The League?” Seriously, just give him the Hart now.
- For the first time in a LONG time, I get the feeling that the Red Wings were forced to bring up a player that they weren’t ready to bring up. That didn’t last too long when Justin Abdelkader was sent back down to Grand Rapids after 2 games.
- I don’t want to see Zdeno Chara naked. Ever. For any reason.
- The Dodgers in the playoffs is seriously competing for my hockey attention.
- Larry Murphy does not make for good television.
- For all of the “20 Cent” jokes I’ve made (and they’re not going to stop), Patrick Kane has looked AMAZING to start the season.
- Did anyone see the Avalanche starting the season 2-0 against the Sharks and Canucks? Anyone?
- If you said, “Yes, I thought the Avs would beat both the Sharks and Canucks to start the season,” YOU’RE A LIAR!
- The Sharks power play is really good. Thornton, Setoguchi, Heatley, Boyle and Captain Blake. Really, really good.
- With the Blues getting better and the Blue Jackets trying to show that last year wasn’t a fluke—the Central is absolutely stacked. It’s almost unfair.
- Can we all get together and agree that it would be best for all of humanity if the Red Sox and Yankees lost?
- Gary Bettman is a pompous little person that needs to be fired for the good of the game.
