Daily Cross Checks
Tuesday November 3

Who’s playing in the NHL tonight? Where can I find it on TV? When should I turn on the aforementioned TV? Most importantly, should I even bother turning on the TV? Here’s a place to find all the games of the night and talk about them to your hearts content. Don’t worry, tomorrow we’ll start all over. Hockey fans, these are your Daily Cross-Checks.
Boston at Detroit
Time: 4 PM PST
TV: TSN (HD),VERSUS (HD) What a shocker. Still can’t see this game. Fantastic.
Two Original 6 teams that have underwhelmed in the early going face off to see who can climb (or stay) above the .500 mark. The high flying Bruins from last season haven’t been so high-flying with only 2.38 goals per game. As Hub Hockey pointed out, this should be a victory for the B’s considering their “win a game, lose a game” pattern. I’m sure the Red Wings would be happy to break that dubious pattern.
Atlanta at Montreal
Time: 4:30 PM PST
TV: RDS
The Thrashers are 4-1-1 on the road this season, so they should feel right at home in Montreal. Ondrej Pavelec will look to build on his 50 save performance earlier this week against the Ottawa Senators. You can look at it two ways: Pavelec has looked great and gives the Thrashers a great chance to win; or the Thrashers need to make sure they don’t give up 51 shots again or they’re going to lose. I think the answer is somewhere in between. As for the Habs goaltending situation, Yaroslav Halak has been getting more of the ice time over Carey Price lately—and some people are hoping that it creates some competition. For the record, Carey Price will get the start tonight.
Tampa Bay at Toronto
Time: 4:30 PM PST
TV: SNET-O (HD)
The Lightning are winless on the road. The Maple Leafs are winless at home. Something has to give as these struggling teams go at it in the ACC tonight. The good news is that the Leafs are showing some signs of life after their dreadful start (4 straight games with at least a point). Tampa, on the other hand, is coming off one of their worst defeats of the year. I’m convinced they STILL don’t know what time that game in Philadelphia started. Fuckin’ World Series.
NY Rangers at Vancouver
Time: 7 PM PST
TV: TSN (HD),MSG (HD)
Who knew that all the Canucks would need was to remove Roberto Luongo from the line-up to turn things around? Well, not exactly. The Canucks are 2-1 since their franchise goaltender went down. Andrew Raycroft has been spectacular in the 2 wins and was less than spectacular in their 7-2 loss in Anaheim (he was only in for 4 of the goals). The Rangers are coming off a shutout win of their own against Boston. We’ll see if they can put up the same kind of effort after a cross-continent flight!
Pittsburgh at Anaheim
Time: 7 PM PST
TV: FS-P (HD),PRIME (HD)
Talk about a game that has danger written all over it. The Pens and their high powered offense visit Orange County to visit the Ducks. Danger you ask? The Ducks defense has been just short of awful in the early going this season. They’re near the bottom of the league in PK, shots against and even goals against. Even without Malkin, this could be a tough match-up for the 2007 Stanley Cup Champs.
