Carcillo Suspended For Punch to Matt Bradley

by Matt Reitz on December 6, 2009

carcilloDaniel Carcillo was suspended for 4 games for his punch to Matt Bradley’s chin. I honestly have no idea if there’s a method to the madness that comes from the league’s offices anymore. Six months ago, Scott Walker connected with Aaron Ward’s face and didn’t receive so much as a game for his troubles. In a similar situation (NOT identical), Carcillo will be sitting for the next 4 games without pay for his transgressions.

Once again, there’s very little rhyme or reason to the suspensions that are handed down from Colin Campbell. Would the Flyers forward have been suspended if punched Bradley anywhere other than his Goodnight Button? Would he have been suspended if his name was Ryan Malone or Jarome Iginla?

Here’s a newsflash: there’s a double-standard when it comes to suspensions in the NHL. Am I surprised that he was suspended? Not at all. Do I think he should have been suspended? Eh, I can see arguments for both sides. Should he have been suspended for 4 games? Unless you’re a Capitals fan, then probably not.

Here’s the video of the incident that we’re talking about. No, there wasn’t a dirty hit or something that Bradley was defending. This is it. Does this look like a 4 game suspension to you? I know I’m in the minority when I say no—so tell how long you think his suspension should be and why!

You didnt even go into the most fucked up part. By rule if a player recieves both a minor and major penelties then the minors are served first. The Caps scored the first of three goals of the 9 minute penelty after 2 minutes and 7 seconds. Carcillo recieved 2 minors (cross-checking and instigating) a major for fighting a 10 minute misconduct and a game. As I watched stunned, the normally very bias Washington tv personalities confirmed what was making me even more upset. Since the first goal came after 2 min 7 sec the first minor was over. The second minor then should have been erased by the goal. Leaving only the 5 min major where in they could score as many times in that 5 min. But even after a very lengthy complaint, they left 6 min 93 sec on the clock. One more example to how this Bettman run hell hole will do what ever they want as long as it is not whats good for the game. O ya and watch the tape. Bradley does drop his gloves. Justy not fast enough not to get knocked the fuck out. But got not one minute of penelty time.

i AGREE, THIS WAS A NASTY MOVE. BUT HOW WAS WHAT MALKIN DID ANY BETTER. CROSS CHECKING A PLAYER 3 TIMES WHILE THEY ARE DOWN ON THE ICE. DOUBLE STANDARDS FOR PITT. BUSINESS AS USUAL FOR THE NHL!
