Video: Carcillo vs. Thornton Fight at the Winter Classic

by Matt Reitz on January 1, 2010

Does it surprise anyone that these are the two guys that had the first fight in Winter Classic history? Daniel Carcillo and Shawn Thornton—thank you for doing what you do.

For anyone that saw Rick Rypien take on Cam Janssen—congratulations. While the Winter Classic saw its first fight on New Years Day, New Years Eve showed us one of the most entertaining fights of the year. For anyone that didn’t see it live, we have you covered. Enjoy!

“We got put in a very tough position by that major penalty. In my opinion it was not the right call,”
“The call clearly states that there has to be a cut. There was no cut. There’s a broken nose. The tape was on Ripper’s right hand, he threw punches with his left, got him good a couple of times, broke his nose, that’s not a cut. I thought the interpretation of that was wrong and it put us behind the eight-ball there.” –Alain Vigneault
